A Gracioso is a clown or jester in Spanish comedy of the 16th century . It also means charming,
graceful, amusing or spirited.
This presentation was an hour of charm, surprise and fresh originality in the hands of two very differing artists; professional lutenist and singer Roxana Gundry, (but without any formal madrigals in earshot) and John Platt an actor, singer and entertainer. Between them and their richly varied programme the little captive audience was led through many styles from Shakespeare and Greensleeves through Ogden Nash into the world of musicals without any jarring moments. Roxana showed what versatility the lute has outside its familiar classical territory and John with his distinctive voice showed how enjoyable it is to journey through many styles and tastes.
Anyone seeking a winsome and very fresh programme will surely find a delight to tickle their fancy.
Roxana Gundry has been singing and playing the lute and other members of the lute family for many years and her performances have taken her around the world. It is a joy now to team up with John Platt to give a rather different kind of show.
John Platt is an entertainer, director of plays (mainly Shakespeare), and toy theatre productions. Designer of costumes, sets and props, he is also an artist, bringing vibrancy and imagination to his work.
